Tags:

Black construction paper (for the window frame)
Colored tissue paper or transparency sheets (for the “glass”)
Scissors
Glue stick or liquid glue
Markers or crayons (for designing patterns)
Ruler (optional, for measuring and cutting)
Introduction:

Discuss the role of stained glass windows in medieval cathedrals and their use in telling stories or depicting religious themes.
Design the Window Frame:

Cut the black construction paper into a window frame shape. This can be a simple rectangle or a more intricate design resembling gothic arches.
Optionally, use a ruler to create a grid pattern on the frame to mimic the lead cames used in real stained glass windows.
Create the “Glass”:

Cut colored tissue paper or transparency sheets into various shapes and sizes to represent pieces of glass.
Arrange the pieces on the back of the window frame to create a stained glass effect.
Assemble the Window:

Glue the colored pieces onto the back of the window frame. Make sure to overlap edges to mimic the look of actual stained glass.
Allow the glue to dry completely.
Display and Reflect:

Once the windows are dry, hang them in a window or in a well-lit area to mimic the effect of sunlight shining through.
Reflect on the project by discussing how the colors and designs mimic real stained glass windows and what they learned about medieval art and architecture.
