Materials Required:
Crackers (like Salada or Premium) that can be broken into 2 or 4 parts
Mini marshmallows
Normal-sized marshmallows
Toothpicks
Red icing
Blue icing
Steps Involved:
Break the crackers into four equal parts. These will represent the four chambers of the heart.
Apply blue icing to two parts of the cracker to represent the right side of the heart, and red icing to the other two parts to represent the left side of the heart.
Push four mini marshmallows onto a toothpick. Repeat this step four times to create the pulmonary veins.
Place two of these toothpicks on the top of the red-iced cracker sections and two on the right-hand side (as you are looking at it). Cover them with red icing.
Push three normal-sized marshmallows onto a toothpick. Repeat this step three times.
Place one of these toothpicks on the top and bottom of the blue-iced cracker sections, and one on the bottom of the red-iced cracker section. Cover them with the corresponding icing color.
Your edible heart model is now complete, illustrating the chambers of the heart and the flow of oxygenated blood.
