Materials Required:

A bowl of M&Ms (variety of colors)
Plates or trays (one per student or group)
Paper and pencils for recording fractions (optional)
Steps Involved:

Preparation: Distribute a bowl of M&Ms to each student or group and provide them with plates or trays to work on.
Activity Introduction: Explain to students that they will use M&Ms to explore fractions and can eat their manipulatives after the lesson.
Creating Fractions: Have students sort the M&Ms by color and create different fractions based on the number of M&Ms of each color. For example, if they have 10 M&Ms and 3 are red, they can represent the fraction 3/10.
Recording Fractions: Students can record the fractions they create on paper, showing the number of M&Ms of each color compared to the total.
Discussion and Review: Discuss the fractions created with the class, review the results, and clarify any misunderstandings. Allow students to enjoy their M&Ms as a fun conclusion to the activity.
