Building Numbers with Blocks

A set of building blocks or base-ten blocks
Paper and pencils.Introduction (5 minutes): Explain that students will use blocks to build and break down numbers.
Building Numbers (10 minutes): Give each student a number (e.g., 7) and ask them to build it using blocks, showing different combinations (e.g., 5 + 2, 3 + 4).
Decomposing Numbers (10 minutes): Have students break down their built number into smaller parts, writing down the different combinations they used.
Discussion (5 minutes): Discuss how many different ways they could break down the number and how they used the blocks to represent those combinations.
Extension (Optional): Challenge students to build and decompose larger numbers or use different types of blocks.
