Materials Required:
Pipe cleaners (yellow and black)
Small plates
Cheese powder
Scissors
Optional: Pictures or models of pollinators (e.g., bees, butterflies)
Steps Involved:
Provide each student with a pipe cleaner and help them shape it into a bee by bending and twisting the pipe cleaner.
Spread cheese powder on small plates to represent flower pollen.
Have students wear their pipe cleaner bees on their fingers.
Demonstrate how the pipe cleaner bees can “pollinate” by gently touching them to the cheese powder, transferring “pollen” from one plate to another.
Discuss how real pollinators transfer pollen between flowers, helping plants produce seeds and fruits.
Encourage students to practice their pollination skills and observe how the cheese powder is moved around, reinforcing the concept of pollination.
