Velcro dart board or a homemade target (e.g., paper target with pom-poms)
Small pom-poms or Velcro darts
Large poster paper or graph paper
Markers or colored pens
Pencils
Introduction (5 minutes):
Explain the activity and its objectives. Discuss how students will aim at a target, record their hits, and then create a graph to show their results.
Demonstrate how to tally the number of hits in each area of the target.
Setting Up (5 minutes):
Set up the target in a designated area where students can take turns aiming.
Provide each student with a few pom-poms or darts to use.
Target Practice (15 minutes):
Have students take turns aiming at the target and recording their hits in different areas (e.g., outer ring, middle ring, center).
Use tally marks to record the number of hits in each section of the target.
Counting and Recording Results (10 minutes):
After all students have had their turns, count the number of hits in each section of the target.
Record these counts on a piece of paper.
Creating the Graph (15 minutes):
Provide students with large poster paper or graph paper.
Show students how to set up their graph with target areas (e.g., outer ring, middle ring, center) on the x-axis and the number of hits on the y-axis.
Instruct students to draw bars to represent the number of hits in each area of the target.
Sharing and Discussing (10 minutes):
Allow students to present their graphs to the class, explaining the results and how the graph represents their data.
Discuss any observations, such as which area of the target was hit the most or least.
Review and Reflection (5 minutes):
Recap the key components of graphing and how it helps in organizing and interpreting data.
Ask students what they enjoyed about the activity and what they learned from it.
