Glue or tape
Pencils, markers, or colored pencils
Rulers or straightedges
Scissors.Introduction ( 5 min):
Review the concept of maps and spatial awareness with the class.
Ask students to share examples of maps they have seen or used before.
Assign Shapes (5 minutes):
Give each group of 3-4 students a set of shapes and ask them to choose one shape to represent their classroom object (e.g., square for the teacher’s desk, circle for the water fountain).
Encourage students to consider the size, shape, and color of the shape when making their selection.
Create the Map (20 minutes):
Have each group glue or tape their shape onto the map at the location where their object is situated in the classroom.
Encourage students to label their shape with the name of the object (e.g., “Teacher’s Desk” or “Water Fountain”).
As students work, circulate around the room and ask questions like “Where do you think your shape should go?” or “How can you make sure your shape is in the correct location?”
Connect the Shapes (10 minutes):
Once all groups have placed their shapes on the map, ask students to use their pencils or markers to draw lines connecting their shapes to show relationships between objects (e.g., from the teacher’s desk to the pencil sharpener).
Encourage students to think about how objects are related in their classroom.
Presentations (10 minutes):
Have each group present their map to the class, pointing out where their object is located and how it relates to other objects in the classroom.
Encourage classmates to ask questions and provide feedback.
Conclusion (5 minutes):
Review what was learned during the activity and ask students to reflect on what they enjoyed most about creating their map
